Brief Overview
Firefighting in today's society is both challenging and exciting with many rewards for a job well done. The mission of the South Bay Fire Department is to reduce deaths, injuries and property loss caused by fire, hazardous situations and other emergencies. We are presently searching for Reserve Firefighters and *Part-Time Paid Driver Engineers.

Firefighter Reserve- South Bay Fire Rescue. Looking for Firefighters who need to Keep their Certifications up to date and want to get real firefighting experience.

All full time career positions are filled from P/T paid and reserve positions

Goal: To establish a group of Florida Certified Firefighter/EMT‘s to supplement the manpower of South Bay Fire Rescue without great expense to the city of South Bay.

Due to the limited manpower, the City of South Bay has started a reserve Firefighter program to help the performance, and most of all, the safety of the firefighters and the citizens of South Bay. The South Bay Fire Department is looking for firefighter’s who are not currently employed at a fire department. We will give these firefighters an opportunity to keep their certifications up to date and preference in all hiring practices. This is open to all firefighters from Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, Martin. and St. Lucie counties.

Requirements for prospective Recruits:

·       Be at least 18 years of age
·       Be a high school graduate or possess a General Education Development Certificate (G-E-D)
·       Posses a current State Firefighter I  or  II certificate
·       Must maintain a valid Florida Driver's license and possess a safe driving record
·       Be of good character and reputation & Pass background check
·       Must not have been convicted of any felony or misdemeanor (excluded traffic)
·       Perform a minimum of two 24 hour shifts (at the fire station) per month
·       Must be in good health as determined by a physician, Provide their own medical exam (unless graduated from state Academy with in past year)              including drug screen.
·       Vision must be 20/20 or corrected
·       Must pass a test for illegal drugs
·       Be a non-user of tobacco products (one year prior & maintain throughout affiliation)
·       First Responder w/current CPR
Uniform items required: navy blue or black pants and steel toe boots or shoes. Shirts and belt are provided.

Work requires physical strength and agility. Work requires emergency call duty, performing tasks in and around heavy traffic, and may require exposure to hazardous conditions and noxious chemicals. Work may require performance of tasks outdoors under varying climatic conditions
